I’ve used computers for a very long time, much like all of you reading this post and over time I have grown very dissatisfied with Microsoft.

I do not like the way they are implementing features into windows that I either do not want or will ever use into the OS of my pc. Recall was the final straw.

I formatted my PC and installed a variaty of Linux distros to try out and ended up settling on Arch for reasons I will cover in another post.

As time went by I loved using Arch as my only OS however I quickly discovered that there where many limitations to this. I play on one specific server on Empyrion which requires EAC to join however this implementation of EAC flat out refuses anyone who is not running Windows to join.

So what was I to do, as much as I love Arch I also really enjoy jumping into the HWS RE server on Empyrion… Dual boot seemed to be the best answer to this.

After some research and a 2x 2tb nvme purchase later I was ready to begin.

I reinstalled Arch one one drive and windows on the other and followed the Dual boot instructions for systemd.

However this was not an elegant system, and after a few boots Windows decided to take over the boot loader not allowing me to boot into Arch which is still my primary system

After searching on the interwebs I found the solution, introducing rEFInd.

This replaces both systemd and windows bootloaders to become its own thing and allow the booting of both, the only caveat it seemed was the over complicated set up, at least in windows, this involved mounting you boot partition to your pc and editing files via Terminal then configuring somethings in BCEDIT.

While on Arch it was much more simple simply install with:

sudo pacman -S refind

then run

refind-install

  1. This is a great read for anyone struggling with dual-booting Arch and Windows. The author’s honest experience and clear solution, especially for the Windows setup, are super helpful! Definitely useful for fellow Linux enthusiasts.

  2. Whoa, what a wild ride through the bootloader jungle! Sounds like a real empyrean struggle switching between Archs purity and Windows necessary evil. Dual booting is clearly the way of the future… or at least, the way of the slightly less frustrated gamer. rEFInd sounds like the ultimate peacekeeper, though the Windows setup sounds more like a complicated dance than a simple install. Good on ya for finding the solution and bringing order to the boot chaos! Next up, lets figure out why my cat keeps staring at the NVMe drives like theyre plotting something. 😉compress image to 200kb

  3. I hear ya on the Arch love-hate cycle! Windows seems like the party pooper in your story, though. Glad rEFInd turned out to be the party planner, though the setup sounds like a riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in BCEDIT. Kudos to ya for navigating that Windows configuration dance! Sounds like a wild ride, from failed dual boot chaos to rEFInd sipping tea. Definitely gives one appreciation for Archs simplicity once the complexity wall hits!tải video Bilibili

  4. Ah, the classic Arch vs. Windows dance! Sounds like a high-stakes game of Bootloader Checkers. rEFInd sounds like the cool kid who showed up to the systemd/Windose party, offering peace and order (mostly). Kudos on solving that boot nightmare – though I bet BCEDIT gave you flashbacks to less glamorous system days. Dual booting is like having two pets: both need attention, and sometimes they try to use the same door. Good luck keeping that system running smoothly!Grow a Garden calculator value to weight

  5. Wow, what a wild ride through the world of bootloaders! Sounds like a real trip switching between Archs elegance and Windows… lets call it enthusiastic takeover attempts. Replacing both with rEFInd sounds like the plot of a slightly techy comedy – Enter rEFInd, the Bootloader Bouncer! Though I gotta laugh at the BCEDIT dance required for Windows. Talk about showing Windows whos boss! Good thing Arch just *demands* a simple `refind-install`. Love the dedication to Arch, even with the dual-boot drama!quay random

  6. Man, love the Arch journey! Switching to a dual boot felt like adding a stubborn pet to the household – required, but definitely caused chaos. Glad you found rEFInd! Its like the polite neighborhood mediator between Archs purity and Windows… well, Windows. Hehe, BCEDIT sounds like a secret handshake Windows requires – sounds intense! Good luck with that setup, hope its less hair-pulling than the initial boot loader battle. Arch on top, Windows playing second fiddle, sounds like a plan with a twist!Đồng hồ đếm ngược online

  7. Haha, dual-booting Arch and Windows sounds like a high-stakes game of who gets to boot today?! Switching between systemds stern efficiency and Windows baffling complexity is quite the emotional rollercoaster. And rEFInd, the charming boot manager with its simple Arch install versus complicated Windows setup – what a hoot! Sounds like a sysadmins version of lets make this slightly more confusing, shall we? Keep on rocking that Arch, even if it needs a Windows sidekick for gaming! #SystemdAndBCedit #BootloaderBrawlshẹn giờ online
