I’ve used computers for a very long time, much like all of you reading this post and over time I have grown very dissatisfied with Microsoft.
I do not like the way they are implementing features into windows that I either do not want or will ever use into the OS of my pc. Recall was the final straw.
I formatted my PC and installed a variaty of Linux distros to try out and ended up settling on Arch for reasons I will cover in another post.
As time went by I loved using Arch as my only OS however I quickly discovered that there where many limitations to this. I play on one specific server on Empyrion which requires EAC to join however this implementation of EAC flat out refuses anyone who is not running Windows to join.
So what was I to do, as much as I love Arch I also really enjoy jumping into the HWS RE server on Empyrion… Dual boot seemed to be the best answer to this.
After some research and a 2x 2tb nvme purchase later I was ready to begin.
I reinstalled Arch one one drive and windows on the other and followed the Dual boot instructions for systemd.
However this was not an elegant system, and after a few boots Windows decided to take over the boot loader not allowing me to boot into Arch which is still my primary system
After searching on the interwebs I found the solution, introducing rEFInd.
This replaces both systemd and windows bootloaders to become its own thing and allow the booting of both, the only caveat it seemed was the over complicated set up, at least in windows, this involved mounting you boot partition to your pc and editing files via Terminal then configuring somethings in BCEDIT.
While on Arch it was much more simple simply install with:
sudo pacman -S refind
then run
refind-install
Job done
